2.WhentheEnterNewPasswordeldopens,typeanewpasswordintheeldandthenretypeittoverify.
Toremovethepower-onpassword,doasfollows:
1.IntheEnterCurrentPasswordeld,typethecurrentpower-onpassword.
2.WhentheEnterNewPasswordeldopens,leaveitblankandpressEntertwice.
Harddiskpasswords
Twotypesofharddiskpasswordshelpprotecttheinformationstoredontheharddisk:
•Userharddiskpassword
•Masterharddiskpassword,whichrequiresauserharddiskpassword
Ifauserharddiskpasswordhasbeenset,butnomasterharddiskpasswordhasbeen,theusermustenter
theuserharddiskpasswordinordertogainaccesstolesandapplicationsontheharddisk.
Themasterpasswordcanbesetandusedonlybyasystemadministrator.Likeamasterkey,itenablesthe
administratortogetaccesstoanyharddriveinasystem.Theadministratorsetsthemasterpassword;no
oneelseknowsit.Thentheadministratorsetsauserpasswordforeachcomputerinthenetwork,andtells
eachuserthepasswordforhisorhercomputer.Theusercanthenchangetheuserpasswordasdesired,
buttheadministratorcanstillgetaccessbyusingthemasterpassword.
Settingaharddiskpassword
1.Printtheseinstructions.
2.Saveallopenles,andexitallapplications.
3.Turnyourcomputeroffandthenonagain.
4.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1.TheBIOSSetupUtilityopens.
5.SelectSecurity,usingthecursordirectionalkeystomovedownthemenu.
6.SelectPassword.
7.SelectHardDiskxPassword,wherexisthenumberoftheharddiskdriveforwhichyouwantto
setapassword.
8.Apasswordwindowopens.YouarepromptedtoselectUserorUser+Master.SelectUserifyouwant
tosetonlyoneharddiskpassword.Ifyouareanadministratororsupervisor,youcanselectUser+
Mastertosettwopasswords.(Theusercanchangetheuserpasswordlater.)
9.IfyouselectUser+Master,gotostep12.
10.IfyouselectUseronly,anew-passwordwindowopens.TypeyournewpasswordintheEnterNew
Passwordeld.
