14. Turn the drive unit shift shaft clockwise while simultaneously turning propeller shaft
counter‑clockwise so that the shift shaft is forward .

IMPORTANT: Install the RH or LH drive unit on the appropriate transom assembly when making
dual engine installations. The LH rotation drive unit can be identified by the decal on the back side
of the upper drive shaft housing, which states: "Alpha One ‑ Counter Rotation"
15. Install the sterndrive unit as follows:
a. Position the trim cylinder straight back over top of the acceleration plate. Do not scratch
the acceleration plate or trim cylinders.
b. Guide the U‑joint shaft through the gimbal bearing and into the engine coupler while
simultaneously guiding the shift slide into the driveshaft housing. Ensure that the shift
slide remains upright and engaged with the bell housing shift shaft lever.
c. If necessary, rotate the propeller shaft counter‑clockwise slightly to help align the U‑joint
shaft splines with the engine coupler splines while sliding the sterndrive into the bell
housing.
IMPORTANT: If the drive unit will not slide into bell housing, ensure that the shift shaft and couplers
are positioned properly. Do not force the drive unit into position.

d. Remove the shift slide stabilizer tool and discard.
e. Slide the sterndrive all the way into bell housing.
