Operator’s Manual of Anesthesia System 9 - 9
Maintenance Cleaning and Disinfection
CAUTION: Before using the anesthesia system after cleaning or disinfecting,
power on the system and follow the on-screen prompts to perform leak
test and compliance test. See (Pages 5-7) 5.4.2"Leak & Compliance Test".
NOTE: Avoid wetting the pneumatic ports and electrical devices during
cleaning and disinfection process.
Follow all WARNINGS and CAUTIONS listed at the beginning of this chapter. Prior to use, refer to the
facility’s infection control policy to determine the frequency and level at which cleaning and
disinfection should be performed. If disinfection is required, all components must first be cleaned
and dried as described in the following sub-sections. For additional information about infection
control practices, refer to the APIC Guidelines for Selection and Use of Disinfectants, published in the
American Journal of Infection Control, Vol. 24, No. 4, August 1996.
For additional information about infection control, refer to the ASA’s Recommendations for Infection
Control for the Practice of Anesthesiology, second edition. For additional information on reprocessing
medical devices, refer to AAMI TIR 30:2003, A compendium of process, materials, test methods, and
acceptance criteria for cleaning reusable medical devices.
9.7.1 Cleaning Agents and Disinfectors/Autoclaving
The cleaning agents and disinfectors listed have been tested and found to not cause harm to the
Anesthesia System parts. Read the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for each cleaning agent and
disinfector.
The cleaning agents and disinfectors listed may not be available or approved for use in all countries.
Follow hospital guidelines for cleaning and cleaning agent use, disinfecting and disinfector use.
NOTE: Cleaning and disinfecting solutions not shown in the cleaning agents
and disinfectors listed must have a pH of 7.0 to 10.5. Organic,
halogenated or petroleum-based solvents, anesthetic agents, glass
cleaners, acetone, or other harsh cleaning agents and disinfectors are
not recommended.
Clean and disinfect the system before its first use. After the system has been used, clean or disinfect it
on a daily basis or regularly at a desired interval. See "Maintenance schedule", Table 9-1 on Pages 9-3
for reference.
Table 9-3 to Table 9-6 introduces the cleaning agents and disinfectors, as well as the possible high-
temperature and high-pressure processing procedures for the anesthesia system.
