Study Type: Sets the LED intensity to pre-defined power levels. For system performance evaluation using
the static phantom, this should be set to ‘Phantom’ (40% LED power level); for all physiologic
experiments, please use the setting ‘Human Subject’ (full LED power). This feature is only available for
NIRScout and NIRscout Extended devices. NIRSport devices employ an automated LED intensity
adjustment feature (see section 16.1.3).
Operation Mode: In addition to the different instrument types, NIRStar will support operating each
either as a single unit or as a Tandem system. Clicking the down arrow in the ‘Operating Mode’ check
box will allow specification of either a single device or tandem mode. See Section 16 for a detailed
description of this capability.
Available Detector Cards: Specify the number of detector cards physically installed in the system. Adjust
this setting according to your system configuration initially after installing NIRStar and whenever the
hardware configuration of the system is changed (e.g., upgrading number of detector cards).
Available Sources: Specify the number of source driver channels physically installed in the system. Adjust
this setting according to your system configuration initially after installing NIRStar and whenever the
hardware configuration of the system is changed (e.g., upgrading number of source channels).
It is necessary to set the correct Hardware Specification when
executing NIRStar for the first time after installation or software upgrade, or
changing the hardware (i.e., the number of detector cards or LED drivers).
The settings will be stored automatically. Unless system hardware is changed, it is generally
not necessary to recheck/configure the Hardware Specification during normal use of the
system.
The Hardware Specification tab should NOT be used to limit the number of sources and/or
detectors to a value less than number physically present. The numbers used for a selected
measurement are specified in the Channel Setup tab (Section 5.2).
The NIRStar software assumes a consecutive order of the optodes connected to the
instrument. Please make certain that the detector and LED optodes are installed following
the system assignment specifications listed in the imager user’s manual.
