7. Troubleshooting
If a fault occurs, first check the points listed below before taking the Phenom for
repair. If you are unable to remedy a problem after following the troubleshooting tips,
consult Phenom-World’s Customer Support:

Under no circumstances should you try to repair the Phenom yourself as this could
invalidate the warranty.
Solution
Calibrate the touch screen.
1 Press the rotary knob (fig. 1,9) for > 10 seconds.
2 When a cross hair appears on the screen, touch it. Continue to touch the cross
hairs until they no longer appear.
Unplug the monitor USB cable (fig. 1,11) from the Phenom USB port (fig. 2,4), then
plug it back in.
Use the Settings screen to select which information appears on the data bar.
Refer to 5.4.1 ‘Databar’.
Might be caused by (Ferro) magnetic or non-conductive sample. Verify image
resolution with a standard SEM sample.
Adjust the stigmation values using the Stigmate option in the Advanced settings
menu. Refer to 5.7.4.2 ‘Stigmate’.
If the best values are at the end limits of the adjustment range, call the Phenom help
desk.
Check that detector mode is set to full instead off topographic A or B. Refer to 5.1.1
and 5.2.1 ‘Detector mode’.
Check contrast with a standard sample (bare aluminum stub).
Perform Source Tilt routine. Refer to 5.7.4 ‘Routine pages.
Touch the button on the button bar (fig. 3,10).
Make sure the sample is loaded correctly.
Check contrast with a standard sample (bare aluminum stub).
If the sample holder is provided with chip, activate the sample holder using the chip
code.
The Q can be mistaken for an O. Try Q instead of O.
