MBOX® USER MANUAL
Thumbnails and Apache HTTP Server
Mbox places thumbnail images on the hard-drive of the server. These items can be accessed remotely by either the
Mbox Director software or any web browser. Access to the images requires the Apache HTTP Server functionality to be
enabled on the Mbox server. The Mbox installer will automatically enable the Apache server on the computer.
Suggested Hardware Congurations
Mbox performance options:
+ Highest performance - Apple Mac Pro with 8 or more CPU cores, boot hard-drive and separate ash or SSD drive
for content, Blackmagic Decklink or UltraStudio video capture device, D700 graphics cards, 16GB or more RAM.
+ Medium performance - Apple iMac with quad-core processor, ash or fusion hard-drive plus separate Thunderbolt
hard-drive for content, AMD Radeon R9 graphics card, 16GB or more RAM, external video output adapter for
connection to stage device.
+ Portable system - Apple MacBook Pro or Mac Mini with quad-core processor, ash or fusion hard-drive optional
separate hard-drive for content (external Thunderbolt drive or SSD recommended), 8GB or more RAM, external
video adapter for connection to stage device.
Mbox computer requirements:
+ Mac OS X 10.9 operating system or newer (El Capitan is preferred).
+ Intel Core 2 processor Mac computer.
+ 8GB RAM
GPU hardware guidelines:
+ Mbox v4 exposes a defect in the ATI/AMD device drivers in OS X 10.9 and OS X 10.10. For best performance with
Mbox v4 when using an AMD GPU, use OS X 10.11. There are no known issues with Nvidia GPUs.
To Install Mbox:
Step 1. Download and unzip the latest package from the link on the previous page.
Step 2. Assure no Mbox-related applications are running (e.g. apps like Launcher, Daemon, or Remote), then run the
installer. Launch the installer, read the legal and installation notes, then continue.
Step 3. At the Media Path pane of the installer, choose where the Mbox folder will be placed, as well as what to do if
an Mbox folder already exists. For a default installation, leaving the options untouched will place the Mbox
folder at the root of the System (boot) drive of the computer.
The Mbox Content Folder Destination section can be used to place the Mbox folder in a custom location.
However, since there must be an item called “Mbox” at the root of the System boot drive, the installer will
create an alias at that location, pointing to the selected custom location.
For an upgrade installation, if a folder or alias named “Mbox” is found on the System boot drive, the pop-up
in the Boot Mbox Folder section will be relabeled “Found” and the following options are available:
a. If “Rename existing” is selected on the pop-up, the existing Mbox folder or alias will be renamed as
Mbox####.old before a fresh Mbox folder/alias is created in the same location. After the installation, any
required les can be manually moved into the new Mbox folder as needed.
b. If “Merge existing” is selected on the pop-up, the installer will merge any installed les with the current
installation. This option will not delete any existing content, but may change some settings and will add
the 001.Sample media, default model, and plug-in folders.
Step 4. Acknowledge settings and then agree to the License Agreement to begin the installation.
