2.2.2. DHCP Option 61
DHCP Option 61 (client Identifier) allows the DHCP server to be configured to provide an IP address to a switch
based on its Media Access Control (MAC) Address or an ID entered into the system. DHCP servers use this
value to index their database of address bindings. This value is expected to be unique for all clients in an
administrative domain. This option allows the system to move from one part of the network to another
while maintaining the same IP address.
DHCP client Identifier (Option 61) is used by DHCP clients to specify their unique identifier. The client
identifier option is optional and can be specified while configuring the DHCP on the interfaces. DHCP Option
61 is enabled by default.
