FUEL LEAKAGE CAN CAUSE
A FIRE OR EXPLOSION!
INSPECT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM
AT LEAST ANNUALLY FOR LEAKS,
DETERIORATED PARTS
AND CORROSION.
VOLVO GASOLINE RECOMMENDATIONS
Unleaded Gasoline
Use only unleaded fuel with a minimum of 87 octane. If
a 89 octane or higher is used you can expect an increase
of power on EFI models.
Mid-grade and premium fuels use injector cleaners and
additives that protect the fuel system and provide higher
performance.
ENGINE DAMAGE RESULTING FROM THE
USE OF A LOWER OCTANE GASOLINE
THAN 87 AKI IS CONSIDERED MISUSE
OF THE ENGINE AND WILL NOT BE
COVERED BY THE ENGINE WARRANTY.
Alcohol Enhanced Gasoline
An increasing number of gasolines sold today contain
alcohol. Ethanol and Methanol are 2 of the most common
alcohol additives.
Your marine engine may be operated using gasoline
blended with up to
10% ethanol with a minimum octane
rating of 87.
Using gasoline containing ethanol the engine will operate
leaner. This could cause engine problems such as stalling
at idle speeds, harder starting or vapor lock.
Ethanol enhanced fuels attract and hold moisture. Fuel
tanks containing moisture can cause corrosion of the tank
material. Inspect fuel system annually.
Leaded Gasoline
For EFI models do not use gasoline with leaded fuel
additives since it could block the fuel injectors and cause
gasoline leakage.
Check with marinas before purchasing gasoline to find
out what additives are blended in their fuel mix.
Use a fuel stabilizer in the fuel system to prevent gum
formation and corrosion. When fuel is left in the tank for
more than a month or at winter storage times this becomes
a preventative maintenance item.

DO NOT USE GASOLINE CONTAINING
METHANOL. SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE
WILL RESULT FROM THE CONTINUED
USE OF METHANOL FUEL.
ANY ENGINE DAMAGE WILL NOT BE
COVERED BY THE ENGINE WARRANTY.
