TURBOCHARGING
Turbocharger: Removal - Refitting

REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
a parts always to be replaced: seal between ex-
haust manifold and turbocharger (10,09,01,07).
a parts always to be replaced: turbocharger oil
pipe seal (10,09,03,05).
a parts always to be replaced: Turbocharger nut
(10,09,01,03).
a Use SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and ingredients for the repairwork) (04B, Consu-
mables - Products) to clean and degrease:
-the exhaust manifold joint face,
-the turbocharger gasket face if reused.
If replacing the turbocharger
a Remove:
-the turbocharger oil return pipe bolts
-the bolts from the turbocharger cooling duct,
-the oil return pipe,
-the turbocharger cooling duct,
-the oil return pipe seals.
a Use SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and ingredients for the repairwork) (04B, Consu-
mables - Products) to clean and degrease the joint
face of the turbocharger oil return pipe.
a Refit:
-a new turbocharger oil return pipe seal to the turbo-
charger oil return pipe,
-a new turbocharger oil return pipe to the turbochar-
ger,
- the oil return pipe retaining bolts to the turbochar-
ger,
- the turbocharger cooling duct,
- the turbocharger cooling duct retaining bolts.
a Tighten to torque:
- the turbocharger oil return pipe bolts (12 Nm),
- the turbocharger cooling duct bolts (12 N.m).
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
a Refit:
-a new seal between the turbocharger and the ex-
haust manifold,
- the turbocharger,
-a new upper nut to the turbocharger,
- new lower nuts to the turbocharger.
a Tighten to torque:
- the turbocharger upper nut (15 N.m + 75˚ ±±
±±
6),
- the turbocharger lower nuts (15 N.m + 75˚ ±±
±±
6).
III - FINAL OPERATION
a Refit the air outlet pipe onto the air filter unit.
a Tighten to torque:
- the clip for the air filter unit air outlet pipe at the
air filter unit end (6 N.m),
- the clip for the air filter unit air outlet pipe at the
throttle unit end (6 N.m).
a Clip:
- the turbocharging pressure regulation valve control
solenoid valve,
- the vacuum pipe from the brake servo.
a Connect the connector for the turbocharging pressu-
re regulation control solenoid valve.
a Fit:
- the air pipe at the intercooler inlet,
- the retaining bracket bolts for the intercooler air in-
let pipe.
a Torque tighten the clip for the intercooler air inlet
pipe (6 N.m).
a Refit the bolt for the turbocharger retaining bracket.
a Connect the turbocharger cooling hoses.
Note:
If a stud comes loose during removal, coat it with
HIGH RESISTANCE THREADLOCK (see Vehi-
cle: Parts and consumables for repair) (04B,
Consumables - Products).
Torque tighten the turbocharger studs (8.5
N.m).
WARNING
Ensure that no foreign bodies enter the turbine or
compressor during the refitting operation.
Check that the turbocharger oil return pipe is not
partially or completely blocked due to scale.
Check that there are no leaks. If there are,
replace the part.
