2.13.2 Paper cooling mechanism
Paper absorbs a lot of heat as it passes the fusing unit.
If paper is stocked in the duplex or copy tray, the toner is
softened by the heat and paper stick together.
When the main switch is turned ON, the two serial
cooling fans at the front and the exhaust fan at the rear
are turned on for ventilation. The cooling guide plate is
forcibly cooled by front and rear curl remover fans.
Heat from the paper is ventilated when the paper
contacts and passes the cooling guide plate. The fusing
exit sensor (a reflection photosensor) is provided at the
center of the cooling guide plate and checks paper
transport.
2.13.3 Duplex entrance mechanism
The duplex entrance junction selects whether paper
goes to the exit section or duplex tray. It is switched by
the duplex entrance junction solenoid.
When the Start key is pressed while in duplex mode, the
duplex entrance junction solenoid comes ON after
approximately 5 seconds. At this time, the front edge of
the copy paper is approximately 46 mm before the
duplex junction gate. The duplex entrance junction
solenoid stays ON during duplexing. When the paper
copied on both sides and comes to the same place
again, the solenoid is turned OFF.
As paper enters the duplex tray it is flexed in the
direction of transport by the flex paper guide and the flex
roller. This improves stacking in the duplex tray. The
duplex entrance junction sensor checks the transport of
the paper, similarly to the fusing exit sensor.
