9180 Electrolyte Analyzer
Alkaline - Transport housing
Glossary 12
Alkaline A basic solution with a pH greater than 7
Arterial blood Oxygenated blood found in arteries
Calibration The process of translating an electrical
signal generated from different standard solutions found
in the SnapPak into a quantitative result for specific
measurement parameters
Deproteinizer A bleaching agent manufactured
appropriate for the disinfection of the surfaces of the
analyzer, removing proteins and the cleaning and
soaking of the reference housing.
Dummy electrode A flow-through electrode with no
measurement function used as a placeholder
Electrodes Flow-through electrodes with a visible well
counter
ISETROL QC material for checking ISE parameters
Locking lever Used to lock the sensors in the
measuring chamber
Measuring chamber Used to measure the Na
+
, K
+
,
Ca
2+
, Cl
-
and Li
+
electrolyte values
Needle mechanism Used to input samples and
aspirated fluids from the SnapPak.
NIST standards Accurate sera with certified expected
values
Peristaltic pump Used to transport sample and
aspirated fluids
Plasma Plasma samples are obtained by centrifuging
heparinized whole blood to separate the cellular
components of the blood
Quality control Known target ranges of QC materials
are compared with the QC results from the instrument
Reference electrode A counter-electrode to the
measuring electrodes. It produces a constant signal,
which allows comparison with voltages from other
electrodes.
Reference housing The reference housing and
reference electrode form the reference electrode unit,
which establishes the contact to the sample
Relief clamps Used to protect the valves during
transport of the instrument. They have to be removed
before operating the instrument.
Sample sensor Connected to the measuring chamber,
it positions the sample while filling the measuring
chamber
Sampling rate Number of samples per hour
Service code Three-letter codes that are entered by
the user to perform special functions on the analyzer,
such as putting the analyzer into standby mode.
Shutdown kit Used to rinse the tubing with distilled
water when the instrument is put out of operation
SnapPak All aspirated fluids and a waste fluid
container are included in the SnapPak
Transport housing Protective casing for the reference
electrode
