Section 3 - Pre-Operation
34 SCHWARZE HYPERVAC HV-18 revised 11/18
Sweeper Pre-Operation Inspection
Before conducting the inspection, make sure the truck engine
is off, all movement has stopped and the truck is in park with
the parking brake engaged. Make sure the truck is parked on
level ground and all movement of the sweeper has stopped.
The side gutter brooms and transfer brooms are connected to the sweeper sense
system. The presets will automatically deploy the left or right side brooms to their
correct positions. The broom patterns will change with wear and down pressure
so for particular conditions the brooms may need to be adjusted to achieve the
optimum patterns shown below.
Side/Gutter Broom(s)
When sweeping in “Right Side Sweep” the left side broom becomes the left most
“Center Transfer Broom” and the right side broom becomes the gutter broom. In
“Left Side Sweep” this configuration is reversed.
Broom speed and pressure adjustments are made from the control console.
□ Broom free of debris, string, wire, etc.
□ Side broom spray nozzles operational and
free of debris
□ Bristle length no less than 6”
□ Down pressure sufficient to create a 4”
strike pattern
□ Broom pattern 9:00 to 1:00
□ Broom speed 70 - 75 rpm approximately
Center Transfer Broom
The center transfer brooms speed and pressure are set from the sweep sense
edit screen. Tilt is a manual adjustment at the broom. See section 6
□ Broom free of debris, string, wire, etc.
□ Bristle length no less than 6
□ Down pressure sufficient to create a 4” strike pattern
□ Broom pattern 10:00 to 2:00
□ Broom speed 70 – 75 rpm approximately
Pickup Nozzles

Pre-Operation Inspection
This checklist can help avoid any sweeping performance problems if used at the start of every sweeping operation.
This checklist should be used as a guide only, always complete a PRE-TRIP inspection as required by U.S. Department of
Transportation (DOT) regulations. We suggest making multiple copies of these two pages so they can be used for regular inspections.
Keep the completed forms in a notebook to keep a comprehensive inspection record of your sweeper.
