To return to automatic adjustment
Press the SET-PUSH dial to set the MIC LEVEL
menu item to “AUTO” in step 4 above.
Note:
• The microphone sound level cannot be
adjusted manually in Manual Focus mode.
Windbreak
The windbreak function allows you to reduce
annoying noise from strong winds when
recording.
1 Set the camcorder to Tape Recording
mode.
2 Press the MENU/DISPLAY button until
the menu screen appears.
3 Turn the SET-PUSH dial (Q) to select
“WIND”, and then press the dial (W) to
select “ON”.

Adjusting the Microphone
Sound Level
The camcorder automatically adjusts the sound
level from the built-in stereo microphone or the
optional zoom microphone. The sound level
can also be adjusted manually to any desired
setting.
1 Set the camcorder to Tape Recording
mode.
2 Press the AUTO ON/OFF button to
select Manual mode.
3 Press the MENU/DISPLAY button until
the menu screen appears.
4 Turn the SET-PUSH dial (Q) to select
“MIC LEVEL”, and then press the dial
(W) to select “MANUAL”.

Note: When a sound at a distorted level is
received, the red microphone sound level
indicator is displayed. Select the level so that
the red indicator does not appear even when
loud sounds are made.
5 Press the MENU/DISPLAY button to
turn off the menu screen.
• The microphone sound level indicator is
displayed.
6 Turn the SET-PUSH dial to select the
desired level.
• The microphone sound level indicator
displays the level of the sounds that are
received. The level can be adjusted in
0.5-unit steps from 0.0 (lowest) to 10.0
(highest).
4 Press the MENU/DISPLAY button to
turn off the menu screen.
To cancel Windbreak
Press the SET-PUSH dial to set the WIND menu
item to “OFF” in step 3 above.
Notes:
• Before recording an actual event, test the
camcorder to check how the sound is recorded.
• Keep the windbreak function off during normal
recording. If it is left on, the recorded audio may
sound somewhat altered when played back.
