6.5.6 Starting up the Evaluation Unit
The Evaluation Unit is configured with a standard parameter set at the factory and, therefore,
is ready to start measurement operation immediately. With the exception of the following
steps, therefore, no additional measures are required to commission the unit for standard
applications:
‡ After you have started up the GM35 SR unit, switch on the power supply to the Evaluation
Unit, if you have not already done so.
‡ Using the user information in Chapter 8, check whether the measurement values are out-
put correctly on the LCD.
â– If fault or warning messages are displayed:
‡ Locate and correct the cause of the fault using the information in Chapter 8, page 65
and the list of fault messages and warnings in Chapter 9.1, page 81.
If the cause of the fault cannot be rectified with this information, contact the Service
department at SICK MAIHAK GmbH or your local sales partner.
‡ If necessary, configure the parameters for the Evaluation Unit in accordance with your in-
stallation environment. For further information, see Chapter 8, page 65.
6.5.7 Connection of the PROFIBUS during Commisioning
‡ Activate parameter mode (par)
‡ Call up Profibus menue and select address
‡ Enter the adequate 7 bit address via arrow keys, then acknowledge
‡ Activate maintenance mode(maint) and call the Profibus menue
‡ Execute Cold start menue
The PROFIBUS software will be initialised with the new address. Now the device master data
file (GSD) can be configured via PROFIBUS due to the operation of the GM 35 system.
