8 Maintenance
The GM35 Probe Model is a low-maintenance measuring device. This chapter describes the
regular maintenance work that must be carried out on the GM35 system.
Qualification The inspections and maintenance activities described in this chapter can be carried out by
service technicians that are familiar with the device and the information in these User
Instructions, and that have an in-depth knowledge of the relevant safety specifications.
Maintenance intervals
The maintenance intervals depend on the specific application conditions and therefore
should be clarified with the SICK-MAIHAK Service department or with a qualified engineer or
technician at your local sales partner.
Unless other arrangements have been made, take note of the following recommendations:
Maintenance interval: 6 weeks
Maintenance log
Recommendation Keep a log of the maintenance activities carried out. A simple notebook recording the
maintenance dates, activities, special observations, and required consumables and spare
parts is adequate.

Important safety instructions for all repair activities
To prevent injury or damage to the measuring system, always observe the following
instructions when carrying out repairs:
Suitable protective clothing and a protective mask must be worn if the measurement gas
is hot and/or corrosive, or has a high dust content, or if the gas duct is pressurized. Never
open the housing or disengage the quick-release locks without taking suitable safety
precautions first.
If the conditions in the measurement gas duct are particularly problematic and hinder or
prevent work on the open duct, despite the use of protective equipment, the
maintenance activities must be carried out when the duct is out of service, or after it has
been flooded with ambient air.
The purge air supply must operate constantly.
If the visual inspection of the power supply cable reveals damage to the insulation or
strain-relief clamp, switch off the power supply to the cable in question immediately.
