Minimum distance
A minimum distance is required in order to separate the vehicles reliably. The length of
this minimum distance depends on the speed at which the vehicles travel through the
measurement station.
This rule of thumb applies: The faster the speed, the longer the distance between the
vehicles has to be.
Additional information can be found in chapter 3.6 Project planning.
3.4.1.1 Operating principle of the TIC102 / TIC502
The operating principle of the TIC102 and TIC502 system functions are identical.
The laser beam emitted vertically the lane surface from the LMS Width detects the upper
side of the vehicle.
The recording process starts as soon as a vehicle is detected by the LMS Width. The
recording process stops when the LMS Width detects the final point on the vehicle. After
the vehicle has passed through, 2D cross-sections are generated and sent to the Traffic
Controller.

The beam of the LMS Length is emitted along the direction of travel. It detects the top,
front, and tail of the vehicle. The data captured by the LMS Length are used to calculate
the length and speed of the vehicle.
