Operation 4
Emergency operation
DANGER
Risk of physical injury
If the emergency lowering function has to be used
because the operator has fallen unconscious, make
sure that all parts of the operator’s body are fully
within the driver's cab so that there is therefore
no risk he may be injured during the lowering
procedure.
The operator of the emergency lowering valve must
be certain that the moving components of the lift
mast are immediately set in motion on opening the
valve. Special attention must be given to the cab,
the chains and the inner masts of the lift mast. All
oftheloadchainsintheliftmastmustremaintaut
throughout the whole of the lowering procedure. If
the components of the lift mast are not immediately
set in motion after opening the emergency lowering
valve, close the valve immediately.
If the view that the operator of the emergency
lowering valve has of the lift mast is obstructed,
a third person with full view of the lift mast must
be involved. This third person must be able to
communicate clearly with both the operator of the
emergency lowering valve and the operator of the
industrial truck.
If a movement like the one described cannot be
detected immediately or if one of the chains has
slackened, a mechanical jam at the lift mast is
suspected.
The emergency lowering procedure must then
be stopped immediately by closing the emergency
lowering valve. The operator must then be retrieved
some other way. For example, a second turret
truck could be used if suitable, or an elevating
work platform. The authorised customer service
team must determine the cause of the fault and the
means of rectifying it.
If, as described above, it is suspected that the lift
mast is mechanically jammed, the abseil system
must not be used. The resulting vibrations could
cause the mechanical jam to be released, which
could create a further hazard should the cab subse-
quently drop.
Apart from the emergency lowering valve, it is
not permitted to adjust any other screw.
Close the valve again once the emergency
lowering process has been fully completed.
