Rotate the crankshaft with a box wrench to set the piston at
TDC
on the compression stroke. (Rotate the crankshaft until
the
"T
line on the generator rotor is aligned with the triangle
mark on the generator cover.)
Insert a thickness gauge between the tappet and the cam. If
the clearance is out of specification, adjust it to the specifica-
tion as follows.

NOTE:
The cam must be at position
[A),
when checking and adjusting
the valve clearance. Clearance readings should not be taken
with the cam in any other position than this position.
ADJUSTMENT
The clearance is adjusted by replacing the existing tappet shim
with a thicker or thinner shim.
Remove the intake or exhaust camshafts.

Remove the tappet and shim by hand or with a magnet.
