72-10-12C STARTER AND STARTER ADAPTER,
TSIO-360-E, EB, F, FB, GB, KB,

A.
Remove attaching hardware (47,48) and pull starter (46) from adapter (2) studs.
Remove and discard o-ring (45).
B. Remove retaining ring (1 5) using snap ring pliers. With proper size drift and soft
mallet, tap needle bearing
(7), driving bearing (I I), worm shaft
(8),
spring
(9),
worm
gear (1 2) and needle bearing (7) out of starter adapter
(2).
C.
Remove attaching hardware (42,43,44), cover (41) and oil seal (25) from scavenge
pump housing (23). Remove attaching hardware (34, 35,
36), (50 thru 53), bracket
(55) on TSIO-360 MB, and scavenge pump housing (23) from starter adapter (2).
Remove and discard o-ring (22). To disassemble scavenge pump, remove screw
(38), washer (37), cover t32), gears (29,31), bushings (24, 30), and woodruff key (39)
from scavenge pump housing (23). Remove fittings (27, 28). Remove and discard o-
ring (22).
D.
Remove attaching hardware (49,52) and separate starter adapter (2) from accessory
case. Remove and discard gasket (1).
E.
Install starter adapter housing (2) in a shielded vise, slide bushing (33) off shaftgear
(21), remove worm wheel gear (171, bearing (16), spring (18), and shaftgear (21) by
turning worm wheel gear (17) counter clockwise and pulling outward simultaneously to
release spring (18). On
L/TSIO models, worm wheel gear (1 7) must be turned
clockwise while pulling outward to release spring (1 8).
F.
Install worm wheel gear (17) in shielded vise, bend back tab on tab washer (19), and
remove screw
(20), tab washer (1 9). Turn flat spot on spring, which was being held by
screw
(20), 180" on worm wheel gear until it lines up with opposite hole. Using
a
small
screwdriver through hole,
pry
spring outward until it is disengaged from worm wheel
gear (17). Separate worm wheel gear
(17), roller bearing (16), spring (1
8),
and
shaftgear (21).
