3.3.3 Adjustment by gain setting knobs
■
Settings made here are only effective for the eye
currently selected. Settings cannot be made for both
eyes simultaneously. Complete necessary settings for
each eye.
Examine the ultrasound image when you make a subtle adjustment using a
gain setting knob.
a) Total knob (1)
Sets the echo sensitivity of the overall image.
(Adjustment range: 20 – 80 dB)
A higher sensitivity captures subtle echo reflections, but it also captures
unnecessary echoes and artifacts (virtual images created by inflections and
reflections of ultrasound beams). A lower sensitivity avoids unnecessary
echoes and artifacts, but makes it difficult to capture subtle echo reflections.
b) Dynamic range knob (2)
Adjusts the dynamic range of the image.
(Adjustment range: 30 – 70 dB)
A higher dynamic range makes the black and white contrast weaker, but
shows finer gradation granularity making subtle tissue differences visible. A
lower dynamic range makes the black and white contrast of the image
stronger, but shows coarser gradation granularity making it difficult to
recognize subtle tissue differences.
