RemovingtheRearWheelMotor
CAUTION
Beforeopeningthehydraulicsystem,operateallthehydraulic
controlstoreleasesystempressureandavoidinjuryfromthe
pressurizedhydraulicuid;refertoReleasingPressurefromthe
HydraulicSystem(page4–6).
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdecks,shutoffthe
engine,settheparkingbrake,andremovethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Blockthefrontwheelswithchockstopreventthemachinefrommoving.
3.Loosen,butdonotremovethelocknut(item7inFigure93)thatsecures
thewheelhubtothewheelmotor.
4.ReadtheGeneralPrecautionsforRemovingandInstallingtheHydraulic
SystemComponents(page4–87).
IMPORTANT
Beforeliftingthemachinewithajack,reviewandfollowJacking
Instructions(page1–6).
5.Liftthemachinewithajacktoremovetherearwheel,supportthemachine
withjackstands.
6.Removetherearwheelfromthemachine;refertoRemovingtheWheel
(page6–6).
7.Ensurethatthelocknutonthewheelmotorshaftisloosenedatleast2turns.
IMPORTANT
Donothitthewheelhub,wheel-hubpuller,orwheelmotorwitha
hammerwhileremovingorinstalling.Hammeringcandamagethe
wheelmotor.
8.Useahubpuller(refertoWheelHubPuller(page4–35))toloosenthewheel
hubfromthewheelmotor.
9.Removethelocknutandwheelhubfromthemotorshaft.Discardthelocknut.
10.Locateandretrievethewoodruffkeyfromthewheelmotorshaft.
11.Cleanthehydraulictubeendsandttingsonthewheelmotortoprevent
contaminantsfromenteringintothehydraulicsystem.
12.Loosenandremovethehydraulictubesfromthettingsonthewheelmotor.
Allowthetubestodrainintoasuitablecontainer.
13.Installcleancapsorplugsonthehydraulictubesandttingstoprevent
systemcontamination.
14.Supportthewheelmotortopreventitfromfallingduringremoval.
15.Removethe4bolts(item9inFigure93)and4lockwashersthatsecurethe
wheelmotortothemotorhousing.
16.Removethewheelmotorfromthemachine.
17.Ifthehydraulicttingsaretoberemovedfromthewheelmotor,markthe
ttingorientationforassemblypurposes.Removethettingsfromthewheel
motoranddiscardtheO-ringsfromthettings.
