Thedualtemperatureswitchincludes2normallyopencircuitsthatareused
tomonitortheenginecoolanttemperature.Theseswitchcircuitsarethe
high-temperaturewarningcircuitandhigh-temperatureshutdowncircuit.The
dualtemperatureswitchisattachedtotheenginewaterpumphousing(Figure
168).
Whentheenginecoolanttemperaturerisestoapproximately105°C(220°F),
thehigh-temperaturewarningcircuitcloses.Thisclosedcircuitprovidesan
inputtotheStandardControlModule(SCM).ThisinputcausestheSCM
high-temperaturewarningLEDtoilluminateandthePTOimplementtoshut
down.
Iftheenginecoolanttemperaturerisestoapproximately115°C(240°F),the
high-temperatureshutdowncircuitclosesandprovidesaninputtotheStandard
ControlModule(SCM).ThisinputcausestheSCMhigh-temperatureshutdown
LEDtoilluminateandtheenginetoshutdown.
TheStandardControlModule(SCM)monitorstheoperationofthedual
temperatureswitch.Ifexcessivecoolanttemperaturecauseseithertheswitch
circuittoclose,theappropriateLEDontheSCMilluminates.Testtheswitch
