Theparkingbrakesensorisanormallyopenproximitysensorthatismounted
belowtheparkingbrakeshaft(Figure157).Thesensingplateforthebrake
sensoristhetabthatisonthebrakeshaft.
Whentheparkingbrakeisnotset(thebrakelatchisnotengaged),thetabis
positionednearthetargetendoftheparkingbrakesensorsothatthesensoris
closed.Thetabismovedawayfromthesensorwhentheparkingbrakeisset
(thebrakelatchisengaged)causingthesensortoopen.
TheStandardControlModule(SCM)monitorstheoperationoftheparkingbrake
sensor.IfthekeyswitchisintheRUNpositionandtheparkingbrakeisreleased
(thebrakelatchisnotengaged),theSCMparkingbrakesensorinputLED
shouldbeilluminated.TesttheparkingbrakesensorandcircuitwiringasaSCM
inputbeforeyouperformthefollowingtestingprocedure.
TestingtheParkingBrakeSensor
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdeck,andshutoff
theengine.
2.Beforeyoudisconnecttheparkingbrakesensorfortesting,ensurethat
youtestthesensoranditscircuitwiringasaSCMinput;refertoStandard
ControlModule(page5–3).
3.IftheSCMveriesthatthebrakesensorandcircuitwiringarefunctioning
correctly,thennomorebrakesensortestingisnecessary.
4.IftheSCMdeterminesthatthebrakesensorandcircuitwiringarenot
functioningcorrectly,proceedwiththefollowingparkingbrakesensortesting
procedure.
5.Removetheleftcover.
6.Locatetheparkingbrakesensor(Figure157).
