Managing and capturing audio into the S-4 can be an important option
as part of the sound design process, as interfacing with other audio
gear expands the creative possibilities. The S-4 offers multiple
interface options for audio. One option is to use the ‘In 1’ and ‘In 2’ line
inputs by connecting to the rear panel. In addition an internal
microphone offers a quick and easy way to capture surrounding audio
immediately on the y. Also an external headset can be used which
has integrated headphones and microphone. This would need to have
a 4-Pole TRRS 3.5mm Mini Jack and be connected to the Headphone
jack. The USB interface also provides audio functionality and connects
both as a host or as a device. Interfacing to a PC / Mac Digital Audio
Workstation can be performed directly across the USB audio function
where 10 Inputs and 10 Outputs are presented. This covers all 4
stereo tracks in the S-4 along with the master out stereo signal. The
S-4 operates at 24-bit / 48 kHz stereo audio in and out and will
recognise .wav and .ac sample formats. Samples can be stored on
board the 4GB memory. In addition the S-4 can also operate with an
external USB drive when connected to access user samples.
