8.5 Firmware Update of the S-4
From time to time Torso Electronics will release rmware updates. This may
be to kill any bug issues or to add or enhance the S-4 features. The dened
process for updates should follow the specic instructions supplied with the
rmware, otherwise this acts as a generic guide.
▌ FIRMWARE UPDATE
1. Download the rmware version from the Torso Electronics website.
2. Connect the PC/Mac to the S-4 with the USB Cable and set as a MSD-
Mass Storage Device as described previously. The S-4 should appear
on the PC/Mac as a disk.
3. Copy the downloaded rmware .ZIP image from your PC/Mac to the S-4
mass storage device. Ensure this is an intact .ZIP le and has not been
unzipped automatically in the browser.
4. Eject the "S-4" disk on your computer
5. On the S-4, Press [CONFIG] to open the settings menu.
6. Turn (SELECT) to navigate to highlight the ‘SYSTEM’ sub-menu. Also
press the [DOWN], or [UP], Action buttons to navigate the menu.
7. Press [OPEN], or Press (SELECT) to open the system sub-menu.
8. Navigate to highlight the ‘INSTALL UPDATE’ option.
9. Press [OPEN], Action button or Press (SELECT) Knob to install the
rmware previously located on the mass storage device
10. The update will commence and the display screen will illustrate the
progress as the le transfers and installs.
11. Once complete the S-4 will restart with the new operating system
rmware installed. The current rmware version will be displayed in the
start up splash screen.

8.6 Installing Factory Samples
Adding user samples is a case of dragging and dropping the correct sample
format from a PC/Mac to the Samples/USER directory when the S-4 is set
as a mass storage device. Sub folders can be created. The S-4 will come
loaded with a set of factory samples. If there is a need to reinstall these or
any updated factory samples, a system utility will help install into the correct
categories.
▌ FACTORY SAMPLES UPDATE
1. Download the factory samples latest version from the Torso Electronics
website.
2. Connect the PC/Mac to the S-4 with the USB Cable and set as a MSD-
Mass Storage Device as described previously. The S-4 should appear
on the PC/Mac as a disk.
3. Copy the downloaded zip le on your PC/Mac to the S-4 mass storage
device. Ensure this is an intact .ZIP le and has not been automatically
unzipped in the browser.
4. Eject the "S-4" disk on your computer
5. On the S-4, Press [CONFIG] to open the settings menu.
6. Turn (SELECT) to navigate to highlight the ‘SYSTEM’ sub-menu. Also
press the [DOWN], or [UP], Action buttons to navigate the menu.
7. Press [OPEN], or Press (SELECT) to open the system sub-menu.
8. Navigate to highlight the ‘INSTALL FACTORY SAMPLES’ option.
9. Press [OPEN], Action button or Press (SELECT) Knob to install the
samples previously located on the mass storage device.
10. The installation will commence and the display screen will illustrate the
progress as the le transfers and installs.
11. Once complete the S-4 will restart with the new factory samples
installed. These will be found when loading a sample in the ‘Factory’
folder ordered by theme.
