3. To get good sensor contact with the soil, position the sensor horizontally into the hole
and push the sensor into the wall of the hole to the desired depth until set firmly.
4. Fill the hole with soil.
5. For thermal insulation, do either of the following:
• Wrap 1 … 2 m (3 ft 3 in … 6 ft 7 in) of the sensor cable into a coil and bury it in the
ground.
• Lead the sensor cable from the enclosure to the sensor through an insulated tube
that you have buried in the ground.
