Make sure that y ou hav e e nough room
when c ornering and avoid sudden
manoeuvres.
If the tra iler/cara van starts to sway, drive
more slowly, do not attem pt to correct the
steering and brake sharply if necessary.
If full-on braking is required , depress the
brake pedal as hard as possib le.
Remem ber that the braking distance for
vehicles towing caravans/trailers w ith a nd
without brake is always greater than that
for vehicles not towing a caravan/trailer.
When driving downhill, towing a caravan/
tra iler subjects the b rakes to a heavier load
than normal. For this reason, select the
same gea r as when driving uphill and drive
at a similar speed. With automatic trans-
mission, engage position 3, 2 or eve n 1.
Select D again as soon as driving
conditions permit.
Easytronic 3 in automatic mode or
autom atic transmission 3 in D will
autom atic ally select the d riv ing
prog ra mme with optimum engine braking
effect.
The cooling fan is electrically operated. Its
cooling power is therefore independent of
the engine spe ed.
Since a considerable amount of heat is
generated at high engine speeds and less
at slower speeds, do not shift down when
climb ing hills whilst the vehic le is still coping
with the gradient in the hig her gear.
Diesel engine: On rising gradients of 10 %
or more, do not drive faster than 20 mph
(30 km/h) in 1st gea r or 30 mph (50 km/h)
in 2nd gear; with automatic transmission,
do not exceed 25 mph (40 km/h)
in position 1.
