W A RN IN G! In addition to safety requirem ents it is im portant to follow ground ing b est
practices for E M C requirem ents. For exam ple, d aisy chain grounding connection between
UP S m odules located in different electrical room s or floors is not recom m ended.
Before connecting the batteries, please read the notice and warning label on the UPS or battery compartment.
N O T E: Full safety instructions on the use and m aintenance of UPS batteries are provided in the
appropriate battery m anufacturers' m anuals. The battery safety inform ation contained in this section
consists of key considerations w hich m ust be taken into accou n t w hen designing the installation and
m ay affect its outcom e, d epending on local conditions.
W A RN IN G! Special care should be taken w hen w orking w ith the batteries. W hen all batteries
are connected together the overall voltage exceeds 50 0 V.
It is very important to make sure that the batteries are separately installed in a specially designed, lockable, dedicated battery
cabinet or battery room.
W A RN IN G! In the event of m alfun ction, the b attery shelves and/or cabinet or battery holders
m ay b ecom e live!
N O T E: T he requirem ents of EC directives are m et w hen b attery com partments w ith orig inal
accessories are used. If other batteries are used, m ake sure that th e applicable E C directives are m et
and that conform ance is declared. T he U PS m ust still be param etrized with the service software and
equipped w ith an all-pole disconnecting device and fuses. W hen dim ensioning your battery cables,
note the connection toleran ces at term in als + /-.

N O T E: T he m o st com m on battery type used in UPS installations is the valve regulated b attery.
Valve regulated cells are not sealed. The amount of gas given off is less than for flooded cells, but when planning the battery
installation, allowance must be made for adequate ventilation and heat dissipation. Valve-regulated cells are not completely
maintenance-free. They must be kept clean and their connections checked periodically to ensure they are tight and that
there is no evidence of corrosion.
It is inevitable that batteries will lose some charge during transportation and storage. Before attempting a capacity test, make
sure the batteries are fully charged, as this may take several hours.
Cell performance typically improves after a few discharge/recharge cycles.
N O T E: T he battery charg er can be configured for different types of batteries and different num b ers
of cells. In the tech n ical data tab le lists the type of batteries that can be used and the num b er of the
cells for which the battery charg er is configured. The m axim um charg ing current is selectable and
depends on the rating of the UPS and its op erating conditions. S everal ch arging m ethods (depending
on the type of b attery) are available and can be configured by qualified perso nnel only.
