Operating procedure
9 Prior briefing of the operating staff on the use of the system is mandatory.
Turn on the power switch of the suspension system.
NOTE Reduction in the lamp brightness or complete failure!
If the backup lamp is defective and replacement is not possible, continue
surgery using an external OR illuminator.
CAUTION Eye injuries!
Looking directly at the light source, e.g. at the microscope lens or light guide,
can damage your eyes.
Never look directly at the light source!
Start with the lowest brightness setting on the suspension system and
gradually increase brightness up to the necessary and still admissible
level.
CAUTION Injury to the patient's retina!
Excessive light intensity or overly long exposure times may lead to retinal
damage in the patient’s eye.
Adjust the light intensity to the illumination setting and the exposure
time. You'll find the values recommended by ZEISS in the table
"Maximum radiation exposure times" on
page 22.
Use the retina protection filter (blue barrier filter). It protects the patient's
retina against unnecessary (blue) radiation and increases the recommended
exposure time by factor 3.
If no red reflex is required, swing the retinal protection device into the
beam path.
