13.1PIM-DMOverview
IntheProtocolIndependentMulticast-DenseMode(PIM-DM),itisassumedthatthereare
manymulticastreceiverswhicharedistributedonmostnetworkdevices.Basedonthe
aboveapplicationmode,themechanismofthePIM-DMprotocolisrelativelysimple.It
diffusesthemulticasttrafctoalldevicesinthenetworkperiodicallythroughthePUSH
mode,andthenestablishandmaintainanSPTforwardingtree.
lWithPIM-DM,itisassumedthateachsub-netinthenetworkhasatleastonemember
existinginamulticastgroup.Inthiscase,themulticastdataisdiffusedtoallnodesin
thenetwork.
lPIM-DMwillcutthebrancheswithnoforwardedmulticastdata,andsaveonly
thebrancheswithareceiver.The"diffuse-cutbranches"operationtakesplace
periodically,andthecutbranchesrecovertoforwardingstatusperiodically.
lWhenthecutbrancheshaveamemberthatexistsinthemulticastgroup,thisnode
sendsmessagestotheupperstreamactively.Inthiscase,thisnodechangestothe
forwardingstatus,andthemulticastdataisforwardedtothisbranch.
