namedstatelessautoconguration.
Forthestatelessautoconguration,thelocallinkmustsupportmulticast.Thenetwork
interfacemustbeabletosendandreceivemulticastpackets.Inthestatelessauto
congurationprocess,therelevantnodesmustmeetthefollowingrequirements.
lAnodeforautocongurationmustdetermineitsownlink-localaddress.
lAuthenticatethislink-localaddresstomakesurethatitisuniqueinthelink.
lThenodemustdeterminetheinformationtobecongured.Suchinformationcanbe
theIPaddressofthisnode,othercongurationinformation,orbothofthem.Incase
anIPaddressisneeded,thenodemustdeterminewhethertoobtainitthroughthe
statelessautocongurationorthroughthestateautoconguration.
Theprocedureisasfollows:
1.Inthestatelessautocongurationprocess,thehostaddsitsnetworkadapterMAC
addressafterthe1111111010prexofthelink-localaddresstocreatealink-local
unicastaddress.
IEEEhasmodiedthenetworkadapterMACaddressfrom48-bitto64-bit.Ifthe
networkadapterMACaddressusedbythehostisstill48-bit,theIPv6networkadapter
driverwillconvertthe48-bitMACaddresstothe64-bitMACaddressinaccordance
withanIEEEformula.
2.Thehostsendsaneighbordiscoveryrequesttotheaddresstocheckwhetherthe
addressisunique.
Ifthereisnoresponsetotherequest,itindicatesthatthelink-localunicastaddress
conguredbythehostitselfisunique.Otherwise,thehostwilluseaninterfaceID
randomlycreatedtoformanewlink-localunicastaddress.
3.Takingtheaddressasthesourceaddress,thehostsendsaroutersolicitationinthe
multicastwaytoalltherouterswithinthelocallinktorequestcongurationinformation.
Routersrespondtoitwitharouteradvertisementcontainingtheprexofanaggregable
globalunicastaddressandotherrelevantcongurationinformation.
Thehostautomaticallyusestheglobaladdressprexobtainedfromroutersandits
owninterfaceIDtoautomaticallycongureaglobaladdresstocommunicatewithother
hostswithintheInternet.
