AnycastAddress
Amulticastaddresscanbesharedbymanynodesinasense.Allthenodesofthe
membersofamulticastaddressexpecttoreceiveallthepacketssenttothisaddress.A
routerconnectingtovedifferentlocalEthernetnetworksshouldforwardacopyofthese
multicastpacketstoeachnetworkrespectively(supposingatleastonenodeofeach
networksubscriberstothismulticastaddress).
Anycastaddressesaresimilartomulticastaddresses.Althoughthetwoareinthesame
casethatananycastaddresscanbesharedbymultiplenodes,onlyonenodeofananycast
addressexpectstoreceivethepacketsenttotheanycastaddress.
Anycastishelpfulinprovidingservices,especiallythoserequiringnorelationshipbetween
clientandserver,suchas,adomainnameserverandatimeserver.Adomainname
serverisnothingbutanameserver,whichprovidesthesameperformancewhetheritis
locatedcloselyorremotely.
Similarly,acloselylocatedtimeserverispreferableintermsofaccuracy.Therefore,when
ahostsendsarequesttoananycastaddresstoobtaininformation,itisthenearestserver
associatedtothisanycastaddressthatshallrespond.
AnycastaddressesareallocatedoutsideofthenormalIPv6unicastaddressspace.
Anycastaddressescannotbedistinguishedfromunicastaddressesintheirforms,and
eachmemberofananycastaddressshouldbeexplicitlyconguredtoidentifyananycast
address.

AnIPv4addressconsistsoffourpartsseparatedbydots,thatis,fournumbersseparated
