lOSPFv3extendstherangeofooding
TheLSeldoftheLSAreectsitsoodingrange.LSAfeaturesthefollowingthree
oodingranges:
àLinkLocalRange:LSAsonlyoodinthelocallinkrange.Thisrangeisapplicable
tothelinkLSA.
àAreaRange:LSAsonlyoodinasingleOSPFv3area.Thisrangeisapplicable
totherouterLSA,networkLSA,inter-areaprexLSA,inter-arearouterLSAand
intra-areaprexLSA.
àASRange:LSAsoodinthewholeOSPFv3routingdomain.Thisisapplicable
totheASexternalLSA.Eachlinksupportsmultipleinstances.OSPFv3supports
theoperationofmultipleOSPFprotocolinstancesoverasinglelink.
lUsageoflinklocaladdress.
TheIPv6linklocaladdressesareusedforneighbordiscoveryandautomatic
congurationoverasinglelink.IPv6routersdonotforwardtheIPv6packets
containinglinklocalsourceaddresses.TheIPv6addressrangeallocatedtothelink
localunicastaddressesisFE80/10.
Exceptforthevirtuallink,OSPFv3linklocaladdressesrelatedtointerfacescan
serveassourceaddressestosendOSPFpackets.Inthevirtuallink,onlytheIPv6
addressesintheglobalrangeorofalocalsitecanserveasthesourceaddress.
ThelinklocaladdressesoccurintheOSPFv3LSAbutarenotallowedtooccurin
othertypesofLSAs.
lChangestotheauthenticationmode
TheauthenticationtypeandauthenticationeldareremovedfromtheOSPFv3
header.Theauthentication-relatedeldsdonotoccurintheOSPFv3areadata
structureandtheinterfacedatastructure.TheOSPFv3employstheauthentication
mechanismprovidedbytheIPv6itselftoimplementintegrityandcondentialityin
packetexchanging.
lChangestotheprotocolpacketformat
TheOSPFv3runsovertheIPv6directly.Addresssemantemeisnotcontainedin
theOSPFheaderbutindifferentLSAtypes.Therefore,OSPFv3isindependentof
networkprotocols.Thefollowingarechangestothepacketformat:
àTheversionnumberchangesfrom2to3.
àOptionseldsoftheHellopacketandthedatabasedescriptionpacketare
expandedto24bits.
àTheauthenticationandauthenticationtypeeldsareremovedfromthepacket
header.
àTheHellopacketdoesnotcontaintheaddresssemantemebutcontainsan
interfaceIDusedbytheroutertoidentifythelink.IftherouterbecomestheDR
onthelink,theinterfaceIDwillbethelinkstateIDofthenetworkLSA.
