Supplemental Laboratory Information
System (LIS)
The OsmoPRO can be connected to a
Laboratory Information System (LIS) to
exchange information. The OsmoPRO sup-
ports bi-directional and uni-directional com-
munication protocols from CLSI
1
,
2.
The LIS host computer must be running soft-
ware configured to communicate with the
OsmoPRO, per the separate description in the
OsmoPRO Laboratory Information System
(LIS) Interface Specification (available from
Advanced Instruments as Part Number
112197PM).
The OsmoPRO can be configured to automat-
ically transfer available results to the host, or
manually transfer results to permit the opera-
tor time to review the data. The information is
parsed and stored in the system for later use.
Setting up OsmoPRO LIS Communications
To configure the OsmoPRO for LIS commu-
nications, the OsmoPRO computer’s LAN
connection must be configured and its LIS
connection must be set up.
Configuring the LAN Connection
The LAN connection on the OsmoPRO must
be enabled and the physical network connec-
tion must ensure the host computer can com-
municate with the OsmoPRO computer. This
is best achieved via a dedicated, direct
Ethernet connection, and assignment of a stat-
ic IP address on the OsmoPRO.
Setting up the OsmoPRO LIS Connection
Use the Setup LIS Connection screen to
configure the OsmoPRO to communicate with
your LIS. This screen is available from the
Settings screen and pressing LIS/LAN.
LIS Enabled
• To enable LIS on the instrument, check
the box next to the text LIS Enabled. A
check mark indicates the setting is
enabled and a green icon indicates that a
successful LIS connection has been estab-
lished:
• To disable LIS, uncheck the box.
• After setting the instrument’s LIS connec-
tion, the user can run sample tests and
send the results to the LIS Server.
When a sample test is in progress, the
pending LIS results will be displayed in
the LIS icon. After each sample is com-
pleted, the pending messages will numeri-
cally increase by one:
When the test run is complete, instrument will
send the results to the LIS Server, if it is con-
figured to automatically transfer the data. If
the instrument is set to manual, the user can
go to the Results database and manually send
the results to the LIS Server.
