4.7 Asset Management
Asset management provides means to collect information on non PROFINET automation com-
ponents, that are connected to PROFINET networked devices. These components are not part
of the PROFINET system, but the collected information will facilitate troubleshooting and ex-
change of faulty components. The host application can describe up to 32 different non PROFI-
NET components in the instances of the Asset Management Object.

4.7.1 Activating Asset Management in the GSD File
Asset management is not a default feature, and the example GSD files distributed do not con-
tain the keyword “AssetManagement”. To activitate it, the user must implement the Asset Man-
agement object for the device to accept the Asset Management Read Record form the network.
In addition the keyword “AssetManagement” must be added to the GSD.
The settings for Asset Management have to be added at the end of the Device Access Point, di-
rectly after </Graphics>, or the GSD checker tool will invalidate the file:
