SNMP Agent 85 (258)
11 SNMP Agent
11.1 General
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP, see RFC1157 standard) is used in network
management systems to monitor network-attached devices for conditions that warrant adminis-
trative attention. A management agent is installed in the managing station, and exchanges data
via get and set requests.
11.2 Community Strings
SNMP uses community strings for authentication. SNMP support and default community strings
are required for PROFINET comformance. For security reasons it is strongly recommended to
change the values of these strings. See attributes #20 and #21 in the Ethernet Host Object
(F9h), p. 203.
11.3 Management Information (MIB)
A MIB is a device database that is accessed by an SNMP agent. The Anybus CompactCom 40
PROFINET IRTsupports standardized MIBs: LLDP-MIB and MIB-II. Standardized MIBs are de-
fined in RFC standards and contain variables that are divided into so called groups. The host
application can change the values of some of the variables for the MIB-II.
11.4 MIB_II
The MIB-II of the Anybus CompactCom 40 PROFINET IRT contains the system- and interfaces
group. The following tables show the variables according to the MIB-II standard (RFC1213) for
monitoring the device status. The access authorizations refer to access via the SNMP protocol.
