Preparing for Measurements
(1) Apparatus for applying samples
① Plastic spoon (included; for non-viscous samples, such as juices)
② Plastic pick with round tip (for stirring viscous samples)
③ Polyethylene pipettes, etc.
※ Do not use glass, metal, or magnetic apparatus for applying samples as they may
scratch the prism.
※ Do not re-use a pipette for applying different samples. Any residue of the previous
sample inside a pipette will be mixed with the next sample, impairing accuracy.
(2) Rinsing cup with nozzle
Have water ready in a cup with a nozzle for cleaning the prism surface and applying a few drops of water to
be measured.
(3) Apparatus for cleaning off samples
① Soft tissue paper
② Ethyl alcohol or diluted alkaline detergent (Apply either one to tissue paper for cleaning polymer and
oily samples.)
※ Wipe thoroughly with water and tissue after cleaning to make sure that no alkaline
detergent is left on the prism area.
