"Full" mode :
Exchange 2003 : the amount of free space in the Data Safe Restoreinstallation directory must at least match
the size of the Exchange database
Exchange 2007 / 2010 : it is not possible to perform multiple Exchange backups in "Full” mode simultaneously
nor perform other backups using the VSS option at the same time. Indeed this backup mode uses the Windows
VSS feature and it is not possible to run multiple snapshot requests simultaneously.
"Sheet by sheet" mode :
The .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 must be installed.
Exchange 2003 : the account used by the Data Safe Restore service (see first point in this paragraph) must
have "Receive as" Exchange rights.
Exchange 2007 : the account used by the Data Safe Restore service (see first point in this paragraph) must
have Active Directory impersonation rights (”ms-Exchg-EPI-impersonation” and ”ms-Exchg-EPI-May-impersonate”).
Exchange 2007 SP0 and SP1 : after each backup, all emails are again sent to the users configured with POP
accounts. Exchange SP2 must be installed to avoid this problem.
Exchange 2010 : the account used by the Data Safe Restore service (see first point in this paragraph) must
have the "ApplicationImpersonation" Exchange role.
"Mailbox" mode :
Exchange 2003 : the amount of free space in the Data Safe Restore installation directory must at least match
the size of all mailboxes to be backed up. Mailboxes larger than 2GB cannot be backed up.
Exchange 2007 SP0 : cannot be backed up in this mode due to its architecture.
⊞ Exchange 2007 SP1 and higher :
requires the installation of Exchange tools and Outlook 2007 on a 32-bit machine, with the mailboxes being
backed up on this same machine.

10.3 Backup
Data Safe Restore automatically detects if an Exchange server is enabled on the station on which it is installed ;
no special installation is required, the standard Windows Data Safe Restore client enables Exchange servers to be
backed up.
The administration console automatically presents (subject to compliance with Paragraphe 10.2requirements) an
"Exchange Server" node in the tree structure of the backupset (Figure 10.1). This node can be browsed in the same
