8.7 GEARBOX (TRANSMISSION)
The main functions of a marine gearbox are the following:
− couple the engine with the propeller shaft and reduce the number of
the propeller revolutions;
− to reverse the propeller direction;
− stop the propeller shaft motion (idle).
