SmartControl™ Meter & TouchPoint™ 53 9E-926
Operation Instructions
4.3 Using the Milking System
After the cow has been prepped, press the Attach/Detach key
to start a milking. When the key is pressed, the display will
show 0.0 production, vacuum will be supplied to the cluster
and the control chain or cord will be released. As milk enters
the meter the milk level will start to increase. Once the meter
has started cycling, the display will start to increment. When
the milk ow drops below the detach threshold, the electronic
control signals the control to retract the cluster and end the
milking. At Detach any remaining milk is released from the
meter and the display is updated for that amount of milk. The
detach threshold and time delay can be programmed to oth-
er values. The initial time delay for milk letdown can also be
changed.
Use the following procedure to operate the TouchPoint & Smart-
Control milk metering system. The owner/manager should use
the Herd Management software on a daily basis to monitor the
performance of the milkers to insure that they are following
the desired routine. The software can also be used to monitor
the milking equipment.
4.3.1 Milking
1. Properly prepare the cow to allow the release of oxytocin.
2. Attaching:
a. While holding the milking unit in your hand, press
the Attach/Detach key. The detacher will release the
claw and open the vacuum shutoff to the claw after
the vacuum delay. After attaching the No Milk
indicator will be on continuously until milk ow is
established.
b. QuickStart: Raise the milking unit in your hand. The
detacher will release the claw and open the vacuum
shutoff to the claw after the set vacuum delay. After
attaching the No Milk indicator will be on continuously
until milk ow is established.
3. Attach the milking unit to the cow’s teats.
4. Adjust the milk hose support arm (if used) to allow slack
in the chain or rope that holds the milking unit. This will
cause the cow to support the weight of the milking unit.
Position the milking unit outlet parallel to the udder center
line.
5. Adjust the hoses in the arm hook so that the claw hangs
freely, without tilting from the weight and stress of the
hoses.
6. Lay the chain or rope on the hose support to keep it clear
of the cow’s legs.
