9E-926 48 SmartControl™ Meter & TouchPoint™
Operation Instructions
4.1.3 Electronic Control
The electronic control is the central information processor and
communications link among the milking system parts (milk
meter, control, valve and a SmartDairy Controller if used). De-
pending on the user’s choice of milking mode, the control will
either automatically activate and monitor certain events of the
milk meter, the milk shutoff valve, and the detach mechanism
or it will leave those tasks to be manually performed by the
user.
The main components of the TouchPoint and SmartControl
milk metering system are: 3 digit LED display used to display
the stall number, 5 digit LED display for the cow number, LED
Status Indicators, LCD for additional data, keypad to enter or
change data, function keys, Automatic/Manual and Attach/De-
tach keys, milk metering vessel and milk shutoff.
The Automatic/Manual and Attach/Detach keys are dual-func-
tion activators. When a key is pressed once, the control will be-
come set for one operation (for example: automatic for auto-
matic takeoff mode). When a key is pressed for a second time,
the control will become set for the other operation (Manual
takeoff mode in this case). This practice of pressing keys once
or twice for different settings applies to setting the Attach and
Detach modes as well.
The SmartControl Meter communicates with the SmartDairy
Controller whenever the Attach/Detach key is pushed or when
the Function Keys are activated. If using a SmartDairy™ Con-
troller when the milking unit is attached to the cow the Touch-
Point & SmartControl will already have the cow number on the
5 digit LED display. After the cow is done milking and the milk-
ing unit is removed the cow number and her milk weight are
sent immediately to the SmartDairy Controller.
The LED Status Indicators will show the milking mode or events
that take place. When the SmartControl Meter is set to the Au-
tomatic takeoff mode, the LED Status Indicators will be green.
When the SmartControl Meter is set to the manual takeoff
mode the LED Status Indicators will be yellow. Similarly, when
the SmartControl Meter registers a below-minimum milk ow
rate the LED Status Indicators will be ashing green or yellow
(corresponding to the above mentioned modes).
The TouchPoint keypad can be used any time to enter com-
mands for setting values, performing actions, or recalling cer-
tain data. (See Section 3 for more details on setting and re-
calling data and the System manual for information on other
available commands).
The 5 digit LED and LCD provide the user with the cow’s indi-
vidual milk production, milking time, and cow number. The user
can also check certain control operation settings at the display
through entry of the Function Keys on the control keypad.
