Router Applications Overview
The Cisco 1240 Connected Grid Router is a ruggedized communication platform, designed for use in
Field Area Network (FAN) power distribution grids that require outdoor, pole-mounted routers. The
FAN is a distribution system in which power generation and transmission are linked to the power
consumers.
The router provides an end-to-end communication network that enables increased power grid efficiency
and reliability, reduced energy consumption, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The router can be
leveraged across applications including:
Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
