PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance introduction
The Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance model DM5500 is an integrated solution that offers industry-leading de-
duplication and data protection solutions. The PowerProtect DM5500 Appliance is a Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 one-node server
(2U) server that can include up to three expansion enclosures for additional storage capacity. The minimum storage capacity
for a
DM5500 appliance configuration without any expansion enclosures is 12 TB to 96 TB. The maximum storage capacity for a
DM5500 appliance configuration with three expansion enclosures is 256 TB.
The DM5500 server has two drive bays. Each drive bay has 12 drives for a total of 24 drives. The DM5500 server supports 12 x
32 GB DIMMs
Each 2U expansion enclosure contains twelve 8 TB drives installed in a fourcolumn, three-row configuration. The expansion
enclosures connect directly to the SAS ports on the back of the DM5500 server.
Network switches are not included with the DM5500 hardware and must be purchased separately or provided by the customer.
Two switches are recommended for redundancy. The following switches are compatible with the DM5500.
SFP28 switches that support 25 GbE and VLAN
SFP+ switches that support 10 GbE and VLAN
Switches that support 10GBASE-T copper cabling and VLAN
The DM5500 is shipped with a fixed rail kit and is installed in a customer-provided rack.
This guide describes DM5500 installation into the rack, cabling and network requirements, and the initial appliance configuration
in the PowerProtect DM5500 UI.

PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance Administrator Guide.
