Cylinder Head and Valve Train
ln-Chassls
Repair
The cylinder head is a one piece, crossflow design
with
two
valves
per cylinder. The head has integrally cast valve guides
and hardened valve seat
surfaces
which can be repaired in a
machine shop
using
the appropriate
service
parts.
The cylinder head has a cast intake manifold,
fuel
filter
head,
thermostat housing and an internal water
bypass.
The injectors
are mounted
in
the head for direct injection
into
the cylinders.
Separate pedestals for each cylinder are used to support and
route
oil to the rocker levers.
The cylinder head gasket is a steel
plate
design
with
print
o-
seal
on
both
sides around the water holes. A
fire
ring in the
gasket
seals
the cylinder bores. As
discussed
in the Cooling
System,
the gasket also provides orifices to control coolant
flow.
