4.2 Motor Starting and Control Module
General – Principle Use
The motor start control logic is the core control and protective function for a motor
protection device. The logic comprises:
• Motor Operation States (╚═▷ “4.2 Motor Operation States”)
• Motor Start Control (╚═▷ “Start Control”)
• Motor Start Blockings (╚═▷ “Motor Start Blocked”)
•
Motor Start / Transition Trips (╚═▷ “Motor Start / Transition Trips”)
• Motor Cold / Warm Detection (╚═▷ “49 – Thermal Model”)
• Emergency Override (╚═▷ “Emergency Override”)
NOTICE!
Whenever changes are made to the settings of protection parameters all protection
functions, including the »MStart« module, get restarted. (See the “Conguration change”
Notice in ╚═▷ Chapter 1.3.1.) This resets the motor operation state back to »Stop« even if
the motor is running all the time.
Afterwards, in case the motor is running the »MStart« module goes through the complete
starting process (»Stop« → »Start« → »Run«) again, but without increasing the start
counters. The timers, however, and the thermal model are reset.
However, since a change of settings generally requires a new commissioning test it is
very unlikely that this behavior aects existing applications.
