1.2.6.7 Optional Heated Area
The physical components can be optionally
separated from the electrical components
by means of a special box (not an option for
½ 19 in units). This can be done for one or
both of the following purposes:
Firstly, the box allows the physical compo-
nents to be regulated to a temperature of
approx. 60 °C, avoiding condensation of
gases or minimizing the inuence of varying
environmental temperatures.
Secondly, the box can be purged with, for
example, inert gas (enclosure purge). The
purge gas is rst fed through a separate t-
ting, purges the electronic components, then
oods the box and leaves the instrument via
another tting.
Purging in this manner can be useful when
measuring very low concentrations (e.g. of
CO or CO
2
): the expulsion of ambient air
avoids adulterant outside inuences.
Alternatively, enclosure purging can be used
to secure enhanced protection for electronic
parts and operators from corrosive or toxic
gases: any leaking gas is expelled from the
housing and does not escape into the vicinity
of the unit or come into contact with any elec-
tronic components located outside the box.
In either case, the purge gas outlet should be
connected to an exhaust gas line.
