2.7.3 Process Control
In order to perform stabilized printing, it is necessary to adjust the parameters related to
forming images on a timely basis. The control of whole print process including
adjustment of the parameters is referred to as “process control”. Main controls are the
following two controls. These controls are carried out after or during printing each time
the number of printed pages exceeds 25 pages.
 Electric potential control
 Toner density control
The additional controls to cover the above two controls are as follows:
 High Area Coverage Mode
 Admix Mode
2.7.3.1 Electric Potential Control
To acquire stabilized print image density, drum charging voltage, developer DC
charging voltage, and ROS Light Intensity should be adjusted depending on the
developing performance which can be changed by various factors. The adjusted drum
charging voltage, the developer DC voltage, and ROS Light Intensity are reflected in
the print process control every time the adjustments are made.
Overview of the control is described below:
1. Detects temperature and humidity with the SENSOR HUM (temperature and
humidity sensor).
2. Creates four patches (yellow, magenta, cyan, and black) onto the Transfer Belt for
bias control.
3. Detects density of the patches on the Transfer Belt with an ADC sensor (density
sensor).
4. Adjusts charged potential of the drum, developer DC voltage, and ROS light
intensity for each color.
