Overview

This is a service manual for the Basic Care™ Bed from Hill-Rom, specifically covering product numbers P1440 (electric model) and P1441 (manual model). It provides instructions for operation, maintenance, and includes parts lists for replacement components.

Function Description:

The Basic Care™ Bed is designed to provide patient support and facilitate caregiving by allowing adjustments to various sections of the sleep deck and overall bed height. The electric model utilizes linear actuators and electronic controls for motion, while the manual model employs cranks and mechanical mechanisms.

The bed's articulating sleep deck comprises head, seat, knee, and foot sections. The head, knee, and foot sections can articulate to change their angular orientation relative to the intermediate frame. Siderails are present on both sides of the bed, capable of being raised and lowered, and tucking below the sleep deck when lowered.

The electric model features low-voltage controls on the head siderails and foot end control panel for adjusting the head and knee sections' angles and the bed's height. It also includes a battery backup system that allows operation of CPR, Trendelenburg, and Reverse Trendelenburg functions for one cycle with a safe working load of 450 lb (204 kg) when no mains power is supplied. Lockout controls on the electric model can disable individual or all three motors.

Both electric and manual versions offer manually operated Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg functions. For the electric model, the hilow motor is used to achieve these positions after manual operation. A CPR release mechanism is also integrated, allowing for rapid flattening of the head section.
