4. Log in to the GUI and look at the Hardware MSA Enclosure Hard Disk page. The
status of the failed disk should now be one of two states:
OK. The RAID will rebuild automatically. The Backup System is fully functional during this
time, however may have reduced performance until the process completes and the
initialization progress is 100%. The Hardware page for the RAIDset shows a message
similar to the following while the RAID rebuilds.
LEFT OVER. If the replacement disk is not a new disk and has already been used in a
storage array, the system will identify this and its status will be LEFT OVER. You must
select the Clear Leftover Disk button and click OK to clear the disk so that it can be used
by the HP B6000 Series Backup System. Once the disk is cleared its status goes to OK
and it is treated as above.
If several disks fail
If more than two disks fail in the same 6–disk array, you will lose all data on the couplet and the
RAID is not recoverable.
However, if several disk failures are reported at once, it is just possible that the disks are fine while
some other component has failed. In these situations care should be taken to rule out the possibilities
of loose/broken cables, faulty RAID controllers or powered-down Capacity Upgrade Kits before
replacing the disks. If the problem lies with components other than the disks, then there is a very
good chance that no actual data loss has occurred.
