you know which is appropriate for your network and any extra information that may be needed
during configuration.
No authentication
Setting authentication to None provides a simple CIFS server configuration that allows for the
creation of shares with no protection. All users can access the shares created on the HP
StoreOnce Backup System with this authentication setting.
User authentication
Setting authentication to user provides a method of securing the CIFS shares so that they can
be accessed only by specified “local” users. Once the server has been set to User mode, it is
possible to create new local users by selecting Create User.
Provide a username and password and click Update. These users can then be individually
allowed to access any of the shares that are created. When creating a new user in User
Authentication mode, the user must log out and back into Windows before they can access
the newly created share.
IMPORTANT: The User Name that you enter must be unique to the couplet. You cannot use
the same User Name on both service sets within a couplet.
Active Directory (AD) authentication
Setting authentication to AD allows the CIFS server to join a Windows Active Directory domain.
Each node of a B6200 couplet must connect to the same domain controller; only one AD
domain controller is allowed across a B6200 couplet. Access to individual CIFS shares is then
managed from the Windows domain controller server which can provide the names of domain
users that will have access. See Configuring users on AD (CIFS shares only) (page 35) for
detailed instructions.
